A live band will jazz up and rock your Martha’s Vineyard wedding day.
If you are dreaming of an “island wedding,” you don’t have to travel to far-away places.
The “destination” ceremony of your dreams can happen much closer to home, on beautiful Martha’s Vineyard. Ocean breezes, sandy beaches, small towns with churches and inns, and, of course, great music can be yours for the asking right here on the island. By any definition, Martha’s Vineyard has a lot to offer. From colorful “gingerbread” cottages in Oak Bluffs, the lighthouses in Edgartown and East Chop, a picturesque island of Chappaquiddick, Aquinnah’s famous Gay Head cliffs, Chilmark’s fishing village of Menemsha, as well as historic communities of West Tisbury and Vineyard Haven, are just some examples of the island’s warmth and charm.
Many couples get married on Martha’s Vineyard each summer, and you can too. There are lots of beautiful venues to choose from, including the Harbor View Hotel and Charlotte Inn in Edgartown, and East Chop Beach Club in Oak Bluffs, among many others.
Whether you choose to wed in a church, on the beach, or in front of a lighthouse overlooking Vineyard Sound, you will have a truly memorable experience – as a wedding should be.
Let there be music
“If music be the food of love, play on” – so said William Shakespeare in his play, “Twelfth Night.”
And what better celebration of love than a wedding?
Yes, music is a very important part of the wedding ceremony and the reception that follows. It will help create the right mood for your big day, entertain your guests, and make the celebration all the more enjoyable and meaningful for the bride, groom, and everyone else.
You don’t have to have a big, fat (or even Greek) wedding in order to get a band; even the small and intimate events will benefit from live music.
We speak from experience – members of our group have played at a variety of Martha’s Vineyard weddings, big and small, elaborate and simple, traditional and modern, and we have seen first-hand how good music puts everyone in a happy mood.
In other words – and we do intend the pun – live music is an icing on the (wedding) cake!
Tunes of endearment
“Take one fresh and tender kiss
Add one stolen night of bliss
One girl, one boy
Some grief, some joy
Memories are made of this.”
We are not implying that your music playlist should include this old Dean Martin tune (though it can, if you want). We are merely conveying the importance of selecting songs and instrumentals that tug at your heartstrings and mean something to you because you will be creating beautiful new memories on this day.
Just about now you are probably wondering what kind of band and music you should choose for your wedding. Your decision depends on several factors, such as the genre of music you and your future spouse enjoy the most, and what mood you want to set for your wedding.
A lot of couples like to blend various music styles: jazz, blues, and rockabilly – which combines elements of rock and roll and country music – and mix new songs with the old classics.
For example, Etta James’s 1961 hit, “At Last” remains popular to this day – by some accounts, it is the most played wedding song of the past 50 years.
The newer standards include ”I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eye Peas, Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” and “We Found Love” by Rihanna.
Many newlyweds also like mellow sounds of smooth jazz (think “The Wedding Song” and “Forever in Love” by Kenny G), great instrumentals for slow dancing.
At the end of the day, the choice of the wedding music comes down to your personal preferences, as well as an eclectic mix of tunes, rhythms, and beats.
That’s amore!
